Local author and polytheist H. Jeremiah Lewis will be reading
selections from his latest book Ecstatic: For Dionysos at Metamorphosis Spirit on
November 11th. Ecstatic
is a unique collection of poetry, essays, short fiction and devotional
writing honoring Dionysos (or Bacchus) – the ancient Greek god of
wine,
women, madness, drama and vegetation, among much else. Afterwards there
will be an open discussion and Mr. Lewis will field questions from the
audience about the history, contemporary worship and paradoxical nature
of this most fascinating of deities.
Copies of Ecstatic
will be available for purchase and can be personally signed by the
author. There will also be complimentary refreshments served.
So come with a healthy appetite and a hunger to learn more about
Dionysos, whom scholar Walter Otto described as “god of ecstasy
and
terror, of wildness and of the most blessed deliverance.”
Friday and Saturday nights:
sidewalk oracle
readings downtown near Kesey
Square or the "Barmuda Triangle" (These sidewalk oracles happen only
infrequently during the rainy winter season.)
Tuesday

some weeks in the summer you might find me at the Park Blocks for the
Tuesday market
I may offer
a variety of classes,
workshops,
book signings, and public
rituals in
the Eugene, Oregon area in the near future. If
you would like
